• Cardamom — the backbone of any serious chai; its active compound cineole gives that distinctive warm, slightly eucalyptus-edged spice that makes chai unmistakably chai
• Black Pepper — piperine doesn’t just add heat — it enhances the bioavailability of other spice compounds, which is why black pepper has been a chai ingredient since the drink originated in the Indian subcontinent over 5,000 years ago
